Abstract:The borehole neck section serves as a critical link between the underground shaft and the surface industrial area. It typically passes through the quaternary cover layer, weathering zones, and shallow bedrock. The geological conditions are variable, the hydrological environment is complex, and it is often connected to surface water. Issues such as seepage and water inflowing are particularly prominent. The appropriate selection of construction techniques directly determines the achievement of safety goals, project completion time, and cost control objectives. This paper focuses on such two typical geological scenarios related to the borehole neck section in common holesdrilling as the bedrock section and the Quaternary layer section. It systematically reviews the prevailing construction techniques. By analyzing real-world mining projects such as Sishanling, Duobao Mountain, Chengchao, and Nihe; this paper compares the applicable conditions, technical principles, and engineering characteristics of various technologies. The analysis results show that, for the borehole neck section of the bedrock, the slope approach method, temporary derrick method, or temporary hoisting transition method can be used preferentially. For the borehole neck section of the Quaternary strata, water control and soil stabilization (sand) are essential. Appropriate techniques such as slope excavation, steel sheet pile support, pile foundation reinforcement, ground freezing, and inverted construction using suspended formwork should be selected based on the properties of the soil layers. The results can serve as a technical reference for the design and construction of similar shaft borehole neck sections.
